A Chinese neurotechnology company, BrainCo, has showcased a groundbreaking AI-powered bionic hand that is pushing the boundaries of prosthetic technology.
Unveiled at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, the latest intelligent prosthetic drew widespread attention for an extraordinary capability: it can continue moving even after being detached from the wearer's arm.
The system works by reading tiny electrical signals generated by the user's muscles and nerves. Advanced AI algorithms interpret these signals almost instantly and transmit movement commands wirelessly to the prosthetic hand. This allows for highly precise control of individual fingers, making movements feel more natural and responsive.
According to BrainCo, the bionic hand features 21 degrees of freedom, full-palm tactile sensing for enhanced touch perception, and a realistic silicone exterior that closely resembles a human hand.
Designed primarily for people with upper-limb amputations, the technology aims to restore everyday hand function and improve independence in daily life. Although BrainCo already offers commercial bionic prosthetic hands, the company has not yet revealed the pricing or launch date for this next-generation model demonstrated at WAIC.
This innovation represents another major step toward AI-driven assistive technology, bringing prosthetic limbs closer than ever to the functionality and dexterity of a natural human hand.
